Your Free Coffee Printable Awaits!
The star of our project is, of course, the charming coffee quote printable. Its simple yet profound message resonates with so many of us who rely on that morning (or afternoon, or evening!) cup to kickstart our day or provide a moment of calm. We’ve designed it with a clean, versatile aesthetic that complements a wide range of decor styles, especially rustic, farmhouse, and cozy modern themes.
Isn’t it just adorable? The beauty of a printable lies in its instant gratification and flexibility. You can print it as many times as you like, experiment with different papers, or even use it for other craft projects. Before you jump into framing, let’s get you set up with the printable itself. It’s incredibly simple to download and print, and we’ll guide you through making the best choices for a professional-looking result right from your home printer.
How to Download and Print Your Coffee Quote
You guys know the drill for our free printables! To access your downloadable coffee quote, simply click the link provided below. This will open a PDF file directly in your browser. From there, you have two convenient options: you can download the file to your computer for later use or click the print icon from your browser’s toolbar to send it straight to your printer.
For the best possible outcome, especially when creating a piece of decor you want to last, we highly recommend printing on quality paper. White card stock paper (typically 65lb to 110lb weight) is our top choice. Its thickness provides excellent durability, prevents ink bleed-through, and gives the printable a substantial feel. Photo paper also works wonderfully, offering vibrant colors and a smooth finish, particularly if you’re looking for a slightly glossy or satin appearance. Choose a matte photo paper for a more subdued, elegant look that complements the rustic frame beautifully.
When printing, ensure your printer settings are adjusted for “best quality” or “photo quality” and that you select the correct paper type. This will ensure sharp lines and rich colors. Once printed, allow the ink to dry completely before handling to avoid smudges.

Crafting Your Rustic Wood Frame: A Step-by-Step Guide
Now that you have your beautiful coffee printable, it’s time to create the perfect companion: a charming, distressed wooden frame that elevates its rustic appeal. This DIY frame project is not only easy but also incredibly rewarding, allowing you to customize the finish to perfectly match your home decor. The beauty of this approach is that it transforms a simple piece of wood into a focal point, giving your printable art a handmade, bespoke feel.
Materials You’ll Need:
- Your Free Coffee Printable (printed on card stock or photo paper)
- A piece of wood (we used a 2×12, perfect for a chunky, substantial frame)
- Miter saw or hand saw (for cutting wood)
- Measuring tape and pencil
- Wood stain (Varathane Carrington is our favorite for a rich, warm tone)
- Stain brush or lint-free cloth
- Clean rag or cloth (for wiping off excess stain)
- Power sander (like a Ryobi Corner Cat sander) or sanding block
- 120-grit sandpaper
- Furniture tacks or decorative upholstery nails
- Hammer (if using tacks)
- Safety glasses and gloves
Step 1: Preparing Your Wood Piece for the Frame
The foundation of our rustic frame begins with a sturdy piece of wood. For this project, we opted for a 2×12 piece of wood, which gives the frame a wonderfully chunky and substantial presence, perfect for that authentic farmhouse aesthetic. A 2×12 board actually measures approximately 1.5 inches thick by 11.25 inches wide, providing ample surface area for our printable and a robust feel. We cut this piece down to a length of 9 inches. This specific dimension was chosen to perfectly complement the size of our printable, ensuring the quote fits snugly within the frame, with just enough border to highlight the distressed edges. You can find suitable wood at local hardware stores like Home Depot, and often, you can find scrap pieces, making this step incredibly cost-effective – sometimes even free, as was the case for us!
When cutting your wood, always prioritize safety. Wear appropriate safety glasses and use a miter saw for precise, clean cuts. If you don’t have a power saw, a hand saw can also do the trick, though it may require a bit more effort. Measure twice, cut once! Mark your 9-inch length clearly with a pencil, ensuring your cut is straight and even. The cleaner the cut, the better your final frame will look.
Step 2: Staining for Depth and Character
With your wood piece cut to size, it’s time to infuse it with rich color and character. Staining is a remarkably simple process that yields dramatic results, instantly transforming raw wood into a piece with warmth and depth. For this project, we used Varathane stain in our absolute favorite color: Carrington. This particular shade is renowned for its beautiful, deep brown tones with hints of red, providing a classic, sophisticated, and wonderfully rustic finish that beautifully complements the coffee theme.
The process couldn’t be easier: simply brush the stain onto the entire surface of your wood piece, ensuring even coverage. Don’t be shy; apply a generous, but not excessive, amount. Allow the stain to penetrate the wood for a few minutes. The longer you let it sit, the deeper and darker the color will be. For a lighter hue, wipe it off sooner; for a richer tone, let it sit a bit longer before wiping. After a few minutes, take a clean, lint-free rag and wipe off the excess stain, moving in the direction of the wood grain. This step is crucial for an even finish and to prevent the stain from becoming tacky. If you desire an even deeper color, you can apply a second coat after the first has thoroughly dried (check the stain manufacturer’s recommendations for drying times, typically a few hours).
Always work in a well-ventilated area when staining, and consider wearing gloves to protect your hands. Once stained, allow the wood to dry completely before moving on to the next step. This usually takes several hours, or even overnight, depending on humidity and ventilation. Proper drying ensures the stain is fully set and ready for distressing.
Step 3: Distressing for that Authentic Farmhouse Feel
Once your stained wood piece is completely dry, it’s time to add that coveted distressed look, which truly brings out the rustic charm and character of the frame. Distressing gives the wood an aged, weathered appearance, as if it has been cherished for years, adding depth and authenticity to your DIY project. This technique is what makes a new piece of wood look like a vintage treasure.
For this step, we utilized our handy Ryobi Corner Cat sander, a fantastic tool for getting into those tricky spots and achieving a controlled distressed effect. We paired it with 120-grit sandpaper, which is abrasive enough to remove stain without gouging the wood excessively. The key to distressing is to focus on the corners, edges, and any raised areas of the wood, as these are the places where natural wear and tear would typically occur over time. Gently sand these areas, allowing some of the natural wood color to peek through the stain. You’re aiming for a subtle, worn effect, not a complete removal of the stain.
If you don’t have a power sander, a simple sanding block or even a piece of sandpaper wrapped around a block of wood will work just as well. You can also experiment with other distressing methods for added character, such as lightly tapping the wood with a hammer to create small dents or using a wire brush to create fine scratches. The amount of distressing is entirely up to your personal preference – go for a heavily weathered look or a more subtly aged finish. The goal is to enhance the wood’s natural beauty and create a story behind your frame.
Step 4: Attaching Your Coffee Printable to the Frame
Now for the final, satisfying step: attaching your beautiful coffee printable to your newly crafted rustic frame! This is where all your efforts come together to create a cohesive piece of art. There are several ways to secure your printable, but we opted for a method that complements the rustic aesthetic and adds an extra layer of visual interest: furniture tacks.
We used a few decorative furniture tacks (also known as upholstery nails) in each of the four corners of our printable. These tacks can be easily found at hardware stores like Home Depot or any craft supply store. They come in various finishes, such as antique brass, bronze, or silver, allowing you to choose one that best matches your stain and personal style. To attach, simply center your printable on the distressed wood frame, ensuring it’s straight and evenly positioned. Then, gently tap a furniture tack into each corner, using a hammer. Make sure the tack goes through the printable and securely into the wood, holding it firmly in place. The beauty of using tacks is that they add a functional yet decorative element, enhancing the handmade, vintage feel of the frame.
If you prefer an alternative method for attachment, especially if you want to be able to easily swap out printables in the future, consider using double-sided tape, craft glue applied sparingly to the back edges of the printable, or even mini binder clips along the top edge for a more industrial look. For a completely sealed and protected finish, you could also use Mod Podge applied over the printable once it’s attached. We’ve used similar attachment methods on our $3 DIY photo frames at Christmas time, so if you’re looking for more visual guidance on securing items to wood, you can definitely refer to that post HERE!
Once your printable is securely attached, stand back and admire your handiwork!
