Hello wonderful readers and fellow DIY enthusiasts!
We’re absolutely thrilled to share some incredibly exciting news and a long-awaited project update with all of you. Here at Shanty2Chic, our world recently expanded in the most beautiful way, bringing an abundance of joy and creative inspiration into our lives. Back in June, we welcomed our precious little boy, Jed, into the family. He’s been the sweetest addition, and we’ve fallen completely head over heels in love with every tiny bit of him. Parenthood is an incredible journey, and watching him grow and discover the world around him has been nothing short of magical.
For those who love seeing behind-the-scenes moments and daily glimpses of our family life and projects, you can always connect with us on Instagram. We shared some early peeks of our little guy there, and it’s a great place to stay updated on all our adventures.

One of the most delightful projects that came with preparing for Jed’s arrival was, of course, designing and building his very own nursery. As DIY lovers, crafting a unique and personalized space for him was a labor of love that we couldn’t wait to undertake. We wanted his room to be a reflection of warmth, creativity, and the enduring charm of farmhouse style, infused with playful elements that would inspire his imagination as he grows. Today, we’re so excited to finally pull back the curtain and give you a full tour of the space we poured our hearts into creating.
From custom-built furniture to carefully selected decorative touches, every element in Jed’s room tells a story. We’ve captured the entire room reveal, including a closer look at all the DIY projects and design choices, in a special video just for you. Get ready to see how we transformed an empty room into a cozy haven for our little adventurer!

Creating a dream nursery for Jed was an incredibly rewarding experience, and the cornerstone of the room is undeniably the beautiful **DIY Farmhouse Crib**. This project was a true highlight, allowing us to build a sturdy, stylish, and completely unique crib that perfectly encapsulated the rustic elegance we envisioned for his space. We believe that furniture built with love carries a special energy, and this crib is certainly testament to that. Designing and constructing it ourselves not only saved on costs but also ensured a bespoke piece that seamlessly integrated with the overall theme. We’re thrilled to offer the **Free Plans** for this farmhouse crib, so you too can embark on this fulfilling woodworking adventure for your little one. Imagine the satisfaction of knowing your baby sleeps in a crib you crafted with your own hands!

Personalization is key in any well-designed space, especially a child’s room. For Jed’s nursery, we incorporated charming **MDF Letters** to spell out his name, adding a custom touch above his crib. These simple yet effective letters instantly make the room feel more intimate and special. The beauty of using MDF letters is their versatility; you can paint them any color to match your decor, or even distress them for a more vintage feel, which fit perfectly with our aesthetic. We used a fantastic tool for creating custom decals and stencils to decorate the room – our beloved **Silhouette Machine**. This machine has been an absolute game-changer for countless DIY projects, allowing us to cut intricate designs from various materials, from vinyl for wall decals to paper for unique art pieces. It truly unlocks a world of creative possibilities and is a tool we use LOTS for everything from personalized gifts to home decor.

The theme for Jed’s room subtly leans into a vintage transportation and adventure motif, creating a timeless appeal that he can grow with. We found some amazing decorative pieces that really bring this vision to life. A **Metal Propeller** serves as a focal point, evoking a sense of nostalgic aviation and daring escapades. Complementing this, an antique-inspired **Last Stop Sign** and a classic **Route 66 Sign** add to the road-trip charm, suggesting journeys and exploration. These pieces are not only visually engaging but also spark imagination, encouraging stories of travel and discovery. To further enhance this theme, we’re excited to announce that **Free Transportation Printables** will be coming soon! These will be perfect for framing and scattering around the room, adding another layer of coordinated decor without breaking the bank.

Another unique element in the room that ties into the vintage theme is a charming **Metal vintage bike wheel**. It’s a wonderfully rustic accent that adds texture and visual interest, reinforcing the feeling of history and adventure. It’s details like these that truly distinguish a space, making it feel curated and personal rather than just decorated.

As Jed grows, his room will naturally evolve, and we’ve already started planning for the future. We’re currently developing **Free Plans for a Twin Bed and Towers**, which will replace his crib when he’s ready for a “big boy” room. These plans will follow the same farmhouse aesthetic, ensuring a cohesive look that grows with him. The accompanying towers will offer ample storage and display space, designed to maximize functionality in a child’s room. For now, the crib is perfect, but having a vision for the next stage of his room design is part of the fun! When it comes to bedding, we opted for comfortable and stylish **Twin Bedding** that complements the room’s color palette and theme. Choosing durable and easy-to-clean bedding is essential for a child’s room, and we found the perfect balance of aesthetics and practicality.

No room is complete without thoughtful lighting, and Jed’s nursery features charming **Bedside Tower Lights** which provide a warm, ambient glow perfect for bedtime stories or late-night check-ins. Proper lighting can set the mood and provide necessary functionality without being overly harsh. Storage is also paramount in any child’s room. We’re excited about a **Floating Shelf under TV – Coming Soon!** This will be a practical addition, offering a sleek space for electronics or small decorative items while keeping the floor clear. For everyday organization, we’ve incorporated stylish **Metal Bins** which are perfect for stashing toys, books, or extra blankets. They’re both functional and contribute to the industrial-farmhouse look we love.

Safety and practicality are also key considerations. We chose a reliable **TV Mount** to securely affix the television to the wall, keeping it out of reach and freeing up valuable floor space. This is an important safety measure in a child’s room, preventing tip-overs and creating a cleaner aesthetic. Beyond the smaller details, we also built a fantastic **Toy Storage Unit** using our popular free plans. This unit is an absolute lifesaver for keeping clutter at bay, providing dedicated spots for all of Jed’s treasures while maintaining the room’s charming design. Good storage is the secret to a happy, organized home!

Finally, for additional display and storage, we installed our popular **DIY Turnbuckle Shelves**. These shelves are not only incredibly sturdy and practical but also add a touch of industrial farmhouse flair that we adore. They’re perfect for showcasing books, small toys, and decorative pieces, adding vertical interest to the room and making the most of the wall space. The combination of rustic wood and industrial hardware creates a striking visual that is both functional and beautiful.
