Welcome Baby Jed! A Tour of His Handcrafted Farmhouse Nursery
Hey DIY family!
Happy Wednesday to you all! I’m bursting with excitement to finally share a very special project that’s been close to my heart for the past few months. As many of you know, our lives took a wonderful turn this past June when we welcomed our newest little blessing into the world. His name is Jed, and he has completely captured our hearts. Every moment with him is pure joy, and I couldn’t imagine life without our little nugget.
Becoming a mom again has been an incredible journey, filled with sleepless nights and endless cuddles. But through it all, my passion for creating and building has remained strong. There’s nothing quite like crafting a space for someone you love, and for Jed, I wanted to build a nursery that felt warm, inviting, and truly unique. A place where he could grow, dream, and be inspired.

Today, I’m thrilled to not only introduce you to our precious Jed but also to give you an exclusive tour of his brand new room. This space is a true labor of love, filled with custom-built pieces, vintage finds, and plenty of DIY charm. We’ve poured our hearts into every detail, designing a room that reflects both our farmhouse aesthetic and a fun, adventurous spirit perfect for a little boy.

My goal is always to inspire you to tackle your own projects, and I hope this gives you a great starting point for creating a special space for the little ones in your life, or simply for adding character to any room in your home.
The Heart of the Room: Our DIY Farmhouse Crib
Every nursery needs a focal point, and for Jed’s room, it’s undoubtedly the DIY Farmhouse Crib. Building a crib can seem like a daunting task, but with our detailed free plans, it’s an incredibly rewarding project. I wanted something sturdy, stylish, and full of character that perfectly embodied our signature farmhouse style. This crib isn’t just a place for Jed to sleep; it’s a piece of furniture built with love and a lasting memory for our family. The rustic charm and robust construction ensure it’s not only beautiful but also safe and durable for years to come. This project was one of the first I tackled for the nursery, setting the tone for the entire room.

Personalized Touches and Wall Decor
To truly make Jed’s room his own, we incorporated several personalized and thematic elements on the walls. One of my favorite techniques for custom decor involves using my Silhouette Machine. This tool is a game-changer for any DIY enthusiast, allowing you to cut custom letters, stencils, and designs with ease. We used it to create personalized accents that tie into the room’s unique theme.
The large MDF letters spelling out Jed’s name above his crib add a wonderfully personal touch. You can customize them with paint or fabric to match any decor. For the adventurous spirit, we added a striking metal propeller – a nod to vintage aviation that brings an industrial edge to the farmhouse theme. Complementing this, the “Last Stop Sign” and “Route 66 Sign” evoke a sense of journey and exploration, creating a playful yet sophisticated atmosphere. These pieces aren’t just decorations; they tell a story, sparking imagination and adventure from day one.

- Silhouette Machine – I absolutely LOVE this machine and use it constantly for so many projects!

- Route 66 Sign
- Free Transportation Printables – These will be available very soon to complement the signs!
Vintage Accents and Future Growth
Continuing the transportation and vintage industrial theme, a metal vintage bike wheel adds another layer of character to the room. It’s details like these that truly make a space feel curated and special. We believe in creating rooms that can evolve with a child, so we’ve already started planning for Jed’s future. The room is designed to transition seamlessly from a nursery to a toddler room and beyond.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to share plans for a twin bed and coordinating towers. While these free plans are still “coming soon,” we’ve already picked out some cozy twin bedding that ties into the room’s aesthetic, ensuring a comfortable and stylish sleep space when Jed is ready. Planning for growth is key in any kids’ room design, allowing for long-term enjoyment and versatility.

Lighting, Shelving, and Smart Storage Solutions
Every functional and beautiful room requires thoughtful lighting and smart storage. We’ve incorporated bedside tower lights that provide a warm, ambient glow, perfect for story time or a soft nightlight. Below the TV, a floating shelf is planned (free plans coming soon!) to neatly house media components or display small decorative items, keeping the space clutter-free and streamlined.
Organization is paramount in a child’s room, and we’ve put a lot of thought into creative storage solutions. The metal bins are perfect for stashing toys, books, or extra blankets, keeping everything tidy while adding to the industrial farmhouse charm. For larger items, our DIY Toy Storage Unit is an absolute lifesaver. This unit provides ample space for toys, helping to keep play areas organized and easy to clean up. It’s a functional piece that can grow with your child, adapting to different storage needs over the years.
And let’s not forget the distinctive DIY Turnbuckle Shelves! These shelves offer both practicality and a unique industrial aesthetic. They’re fantastic for displaying books, small decor pieces, or even art supplies, adding vertical interest and maximizing storage space without sacrificing style. Each storage piece has been chosen or built with both form and function in mind, ensuring Jed’s room is as practical as it is pretty.
